About me
I’m Marc van der Kooy, an independent mobile device management consultant based in the Netherlands. Since 2023 I’ve been helping organisations design and run their device estates across Microsoft, Apple, Samsung and Android Enterprise — from a single creative agency on Mac and iPhone to multinationals with thousands of mixed devices.
Below is the story of how I got here, and the certifications I’ve collected along the way.
However, if you’d rather see what I can do for your business, the Expertise page is a better starting point.
Early Experience
It all began with an internship at a prominent school in Rotterdam, where the challenge of overseeing 4000 machines ignited my passion for user and device management.
As a result, that experience shaped the foundation of my career and set the direction for everything that followed.
Eager for variety, I switched to secondment and worked across many environments and corporate cultures. The focus was always on managing desktops and smartphones, and these roles taught me how organisations approach mobility in very different ways. It strengthened my interest in device and user management and helped me build a broad, adaptable skill set.
From Generalist to MDM Consultant
I started with Novell. Eventually, I moved to Microsoft SCCM and Intune. Along the way I also began managing iPhones with Apple Configurator before Automated Device Enrollment became platform-available. That mix of traditional and modern deployment methods taught me the value of flexible solutions across different platforms.
Later, after a few years of secondment, I switched to a consultancy-based role. Working as a mobile device management consultant, I advised on smartphone-focused solutions like Samsung Knox, MobileIron, BlackBerry UEM and VMware AirWatch. Along the way, I worked across law firms, government institutions and non-profits. — a wide spectrum of industries, each with its own technical and cultural quirks. That’s where I learned to translate technical solutions into real-world impact.
Adoption, Soft Skills and Going Freelance
During those projects I noticed that adoption matters more than the technology itself. So I moved into a role focused on adoption — on training, communication, and helping users actually use the systems we built. As a result, combining adoption work with deep technical knowledge made everything I delivered more effective.
Then, in 2023, I took the next step and started Emmpoint as a freelance MDM consultant. In addition, both my parents are entrepreneurs, so working independently was a natural fit. Therefore, it gives me the freedom to focus fully on the right advice and tailored implementations for every client.
