Samsung Smart Switch MDM support has become increasingly important as more organizations upgrade users to new corporate Samsung devices. With Smart Switch, users can quickly migrate apps, messages, media and settings from an old phone to a new one — whether they do it with or without IT assistance.
Smart Switch performs flawlessly on personal devices. And when users connect both phones with a USB-C cable, the transfer usually takes just a few minutes.
But there is a catch…
Out of the box error
On Fully Managed Android Enterprise devices, Samsung Smart Switch does not work out of the box.
The device displays an error message that blocks the migration.
The good news?
You can fix the issue with a simple MDM-based configuration!

Enable Samsung Smart Switch MDM via App Configuration
To allow Smart Switch on corporate-owned devices, you must deploy an App Configuration Policy for the Samsung Smart Switch app.
Intune contains a specific setting that controls whether Smart Switch is allowed on Fully Managed devices.
There is only one configuration key available — but it’s the only one you need.
When enabled, Smart Switch immediately becomes functional on the device, allowing users to complete their data migration during enrollment or afterwards.
Below is a screenshot showing where to configure this setting inside Microsoft Intune:

Why MDM configuration is required
Fully Managed Android devices restrict certain actions unless explicitly allowed via MDM. Samsung Smart Switch falls into this category.
By enabling Samsung Smart Switch MDM support, organizations keep the device secure while still giving users a frictionless migration experience.
This configuration is especially useful during large-scale device rollouts or refresh cycles. Without enabling this setting, IT teams often end up manually assisting users or migrating limited data through alternative tools. Allowing Smart Switch on Fully Managed devices not only reduces support workload but also improves user experience during the transition to a new device. It’s one of the easiest but most overlooked configuration steps in Android Enterprise environments.
